in time you need to learn to love
the ebb just like the flow
grab hold of your bootstraps and pull like hell
until gravity feels sorry for you and lets you go
as if you lack the proper chemicals to know
the way it felt the last time you let yourself
fall this low

Exxon Mobil reports quarterly profits of more than $10.3 billion, the second-best quarter ever for a U.S. company. Exxon Mobil’s mark is topped only by the company’s own record, which it set late last year. With other large oil companies also announcing earnings in the billions for the quarter, critics charge that the record profits come at the expense of consumers, who are paying an average of $3 a gallon for gasoline this week.
Recently, BP and Royal Dutch Shell both reported profits of more than $7 billion. Conoco Phillips says it made more than $5 billion in the quarter. Chevron will announce its earnings Friday, which is expected to push the total for the five largest oil companies to well above $30 billion.
see? it’s not all bad.

but i think that fiftymillimeter has run its course in its current incarnation as a photoblog. within the next couple of weeks i will be phasing out the photoblog itself and culling my negatives to build a portfolio-type site. i say portfolio-type site because i have no intentions of doing any commercial photography, though i would like to put some effort into getting some high-quality prints which i will consider sharing with the world.
why, exactly?
well, there are a few reasons, not the least of which being that my time and passion capacity for interests is limited, and my photography has been getting the short end of that stick for a while now.
additionally, i don’t think my preferred style of photography fits into the photoblog format. i.e., i’ve never been the guy to take my camera everywhere and fire off shots of anything and everything. in fact, at my most prolific i was probably shooting three rolls of film a month. three rolls of film on a 55 year old camera, never the same shot twice. in trying to keep up with a daily post i posted the majority of each roll, regardless of whether i felt the quality of the individual frames was acceptable. i don’t want to do that anymore.
so, to everyone that has supported 50mm – thanks and keep in touch.
